June Weekend in Florence

Our first trip to Italy has landed us in Florence for 3 nights arriving Sat by train from Orvieto. Starting to plan our days there and realizing that there's a lot to see and due to the timing a lot that might be closed/shorter hours. What do you think is the best way to manage our time?
thanks

Linda, it depends on your interests. Sunday and Monday are not good days for many of the museums, and Sundays are challenging for churches. The RS guide has a listing of what is closed on what days. I'd suggest making a list of what you definitely can't miss, and scheduling around those. Florence is my favorite city in the world, mostly because of my love of the art of the Florentine Renaissance. A few thoughts: The Uffizi is on most people's list; if it's on yours, definitely make reservations as soon as you decide on a day. The Convent of San Marco is my favorite; it has probably the world's most extensive collection of Fra Angelico's work, many still where he intended them to be; reservations typically aren't needed. The Bargello has a world-class collection of sculpture (and challenging hours), in a historically interesting building. I'm less fond of the Academia (ie, David, plus a really nice collection of paintings from the International Gothic tradition), but reservations are also needed there. The church of San Miniato al Monte is beautiful, and the plaza outside offers striking views over Florence. At sunset it is particularly lovely (and you're welcomed to join the Vespers chanted by the monks). You might want to schedule a tour or two. I've always had great experiences with Context Travel. You could check their offerings on their website (ie, Context Florence, Context Rome, etc). They do small groups (ie, typically 6 or fewer), and their guides have appropriate academic degrees and good English. Enjoy your time! (and Orvieto is also lovely)

thanks for the options - I guess I'm right in thinking I should put together must sees for Sat. Of course the Uffizi... Have you (or anyone else) ever heard about or used The Enthusiastic Traveler?
I came across her while looking at small wineries for tours.
