June weather in Tuscany.

We are planning a family trip to Lucca, and then on to Greve in Chianti in June,2013 What was the weather like in Chianti last June? Do we need an air cond. villa or will fans do? Our rental in Lucca has Ac. Also what is the mosquito situation like in Tuscany?
Any help would be appreciated.

Lived in Tuscany (including June) for 28 years. Go to Tuscany in June every year. Early June generally is in the 80's, late June in the 90's. May be humid. This year (June 2012) was brutal the latter part of June. Definitely recommend A/C, however in the Chianti you are in the countryside so you might get away with fans (but not if it's a farmhouse on the top floor close to roof). Pool in property will help if it's like this year.
Mosquito situation is bad anywhere in the valleys (Lucca, Florence etc.). May be better at higher altitudes. Eat plenty of garlic and carry a bug repellent.

Mosquito's can also be a problem higher up: several castles in the area have nets over the windows.
June 2013 will be hot and dry- it is predictable and the reason why grapes have been grown in the region for centuries. Go for somewhere with air-con.

A/C is a great option to have, but I was in Lucca last mid-June and did not need it. The building I stayed in was 500 years old and well-insulated; in late June there was a jump in temperature in the area.
