June Trip

Ok my wife and I are heading to Italy for the first in June and wanted to get some feedback on our schedule I am aware of the resevations/tickets I will need for some of the locations.

6/19 Arrive in Milan around noon with a plan to walk around the Duomo area after checking in at our hotel
Fri. 6/20 Train to Lake Como (if good weather) in the morning. Return to Milan mid afternoon and head to see the last supper (I will make a reservation). Attending a Pearl Jam concert at night.
Sat. 6/21 Train to Florence - see David, Uffizi and Duomo (I know one day is not enough). Then late afternoon train to Rome
Sun. 6/22 Up early for Borghese Gallery (9am). Down time from 11ish until 1 or 2 the head to Colosseum /Form/PHill
Mon. 6/23 Early morning at the Vatican Museum and St. Peters. Free the rest of the day. (could use the 2nd day of the two day pass to go back to Colosseum area if we run out of time the day before)
Tue. 6/24 Day trip to Orvieto head back early afternoon.
6/25 Fly home from Rome

First off, don't bother going to lake Como if you can only go for an hour or two, especially since you have plans for the afternoon and evening in Milan.

Do the Vatican in the afternoon that Monday, or even better on Tuesday afternoon. Mornings are jam packed with tour groups, and Monday is the busiest day of all.

Why not see Orvieto in between Florence and Rome?

My only other suggestion would be to make your trip about a week longer. It's far too quick for the number of places you are going.

When you land in Milan, take the train up to Varenna and stay there for the night so that you can get 24 hours there.

Agree with April. I would go to Varenna and stay there two nights. I would stop in Milan just to change trains to maybe visit the Duomo and galleria for an hour or two. But I wouldn't spend any nights in Milan if you want to visit Lake Como. Otherwise you should skip lake Como altogether. You can't do both in 36 hours.

April & Roberto missed the Pearl Jam concert back in Milan, the main reason for the trip.

Hi Bob,

Actually that's why I only had them in Lake Como for 24 hours; otherwise I would have said to skip Milan like Roberto did. :) It's Pearl Jam for crying out loud!! :)

Yes a big reason for going is Pearl Jam (also a 10 year anniversary trip, but come on Pearl Jam at San Siro) and really the only reason for going to Milan. Will most likely skip Como. I do like the idea of doing the Vatican on Tuesday.

Thanks everyone
