June 2nd is a holiday in Italy. We have a tour booked and the tour operator insists that everything will run as planned and all shops in San Gimignano will be open, the trains will run regularly etc. Does anyone have any experience as to this?
True - it's a minor holiday - in most towns there's only a little memorial ceremony in the morning near a war memorial. In Rome there's a bigger event with a flyover and a concert.
Thanks for the info. I was thinking it was going to be similar in scope to the 4th in the US.
It's not a big deal in Italy and this year it's on a Sunday anyway....anywhere touristy, restaurants and bars will be open as normal
