I am headed to Italy for a few weeks. I heard that June 2nd is Republic Day {similar to our 4th of July in the USA} I hear all restaurants and places are typically closed for celebration. Does anyone know more about this? Thanks so much.
Depends a but on where you are. In the bigger cities there is ALWAYS something open, including museums. In small towns it might be a little quiet.
I've been in Italy on June 2 every year since 2010 and while there are some events, there has been no inconvenience about restaurants and shops. Some sights may have shorter hours or be closed, you can check websites for the places you want to see. It's much lower key than July 4 in the States.
Thank you for your response. It is helpful. We will be in Lake Como Italy. I am planning a wedding for Wednesday, June 3rd 2015 so I did want to ensure that it would be fine. It sounds like it is a respected holiday and some things will be available if needed.
On our last trip we did find that some of the car rental agencies in smaller towns were closed on June 2.
