June 24, 2019 Travel to Florence???

Does anyone know if the trains are running into Florence on June 24, 2019? I'm trying to find trains from Le Spezia to Florence, leaving sometime in the afternoon on June 24, 2019. I'm only seeing 1 train at 7:09 am on the Trainline.com website to Firenze Campo Di Marte.

Does anyone know if the holiday will affect train service? Suggestions on other ways to get from Le Spezia to Florence?

Appreciate any tips you all might have!

john,

There's a schedule change in mid-June, and all the schedules after that may not be uploaded yet. Use the Bahn.de website and search for 3 June. That will give you a good idea on what trains are available. Many of the trains on that route are Regionale, so buying advance tickets may not save much. You can easily buy tickets locally. DON'T forget to validate the tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll be subject to hefty fines!

You can also use the Trenitalia website to check schedules. Use the same day of the week and a date prior to June 8. If the website comes up in Italian, simply change the language to English. You must use the Italian names of your departure and arrival cities.

On the Feast of St. John day in 2017, we arrived in Florence by Hertz rental car, which we immediately returned at the airport, using a cab to get into city center. Friends who had stayed the prior night in Monterosso joined us in the early afternoon, traveling by train from Le Spezia, where they'd returned their Hertz rental car. It appeared that the trains were fully functional. So perhaps this is a situation where they are getting ready to publish new schedules.

Its not a "perhaps". Every Italian knows that the regional schedules don't get published and put on line until maybe a week before the June 8 schedule update. But they go about their lives with complete confidence that it will happen. They would be more worried that on the day they plan for travel there would be a strike. Even then, there will be advance notice.

they just didn't publish the timetable for regional trains yet. Don't worry you will see it live soon

Thank you all for the replies.

That makes sense. When I look at Monday June 3 there are trains every 15 -20 min leaving Le Spezia to Florence. Whew.

I may look at renting a car also, not sure if thats possible in Le Spezia, but would think its doable. If anyone has any ideas on that it would be appreciated also.

Thanks!

If you decide to rent a car for that short journey be aware that if you don't have a EU driving licence you will need to acquire (before leaving home) an IDP for each driver in addition to their home license (available AAA or CAA in North America, your profile doesn't indicate your home country) and you need to be very aware - especially if driving into Florence - of the meaning and law concerning ZTLs. Florence has more than anywhere else and every trip into one will be recorded by automatic camera with likely large fines to follow.
