We will be in Naples on a cruise ship stop that day June 2 2013.
Is public transport running? Are museums and shops open? Thanks

Assume yes. We were in Rome twice on that day and noticed no difference.

I can't speak for Rome but up here everything closes on 2 June although I believe the public transportation still runs. Maybe the big tourist cities keep stuff open.

I'm in Italy on June 2 almost every year. Everything you will probably want will be open - some smaller shops may close, but almost everything else will run normally or with only slightly curtailed hours (major museums and sites will have regular hours). You may be able to see fireworks displays that evening.
