July 7 strikes

Hi all,

We are unfortunately getting caught up in the strike actions, but ours is in Finland. We fly from MXP to HEL on 7/7 and their ground staff has strike action planned for that day. So, looking at travel alternatives and we can fly out from LIN at 11:00ish on 7/7. Long story short, we are staying the night out at MXP as we have other travel companions we're assisting, so we'd need to get from MXP to LIN the morning of the 7th.

I'm wondering if any of the planned Italy strikes for 7/7 would affect us taking the Malpensa Express that day back to Milan and then getting out to LIN? It looks like most of the rail strike stuff doesn't happen until 21:00 that night, but thought I'd double check with the group here. Here's the link to the strike page.

For strikes affecting the Malpensa Express trains from MXP to Milan Centrale or Cadorna station in Milan, the best source to repeatedly check is this Trennord advisory for July 7-8 strikes.. Trenord operates the Malpensa Express. It does say the strike is not expected to start until 9 pm on the 7th, but I would keep monitoring this site.

During strikes, Trenord provides busses as substitutes for the Malpensa Express. Tickets are the same price as the train and you find the bus near where you would go for the Malpensa Express, not outside where other busses are. I did this last October. I had to stand in a long line for almost an hour to get on a bus but otherwise it worked fine.

Thank you CD in DC! Do you remember how much longer the bus ride was? We would leave around 7 AM to get over to LIN, so guessing 90-120 minutes?

I think the replacement bus run by Trenord took less than an hour to Cadorna station.
Even on strike days, there are guaranteed trains that run during rush hours for commuters, between 6am and 9am, Iso you should be fine in the morning of the 7th. I think the Malpensa express line to Milan Centrale would be best for getting to LIN but I have no experience with that.
