Jewish Museum in Venice

Two questions:
From reading the website, it seems that the museum is currently being renovated, but I am not sure. Is the museum open for visits?
https://www.ghettovenezia.com/en

Whether or not the museum is open, any thoughts or tips about visiting the Jewish ghetto in Venice? Thanks!

I visited the Jewish Quarter for the first time and even though I'm not Jewish (or even particularly religious) it was still an evocative experience and well worth the trip. I think context absolutely helps so I would read up and or research the history of the quarter some. The very word ghetto comes from this place in Venice as RS covers in his talks about it.

The program Invisible Cities had a great segment showing how the various synagogues were built into and across buildings to fulfill the needs of the people. (All three segments are amazing if you can watch them - it was where I learned about The Vasari Corridor in Florence.) I considered a tour of the Jewish Quarter but all the ones I found were very Jewish with visits to synagogues and seemed like more than I was looking for as an outsider but a historical tour that includes the Jewish Quarter would probably very interesting.

My $.02. Venice is amazing - enjoy!

I believe that the word ghetto comes from the verb, to cast. As in casting iron.
There used to be an iron foundry in the area where the ghetto is located.

If you go to Ferrara there's a big new national Jewish museum.

After reading and re-reading the museum page, it seems to be closed for renovation. However, there are tours--tours from the museum, as well as other tours such as those that Princess PuPule mentioned. We shall study up and decide! Thanks for all the tips!
