Jewelry and leather shops on Venice and Florence

Anyone have a suggestion(s) for family jewelry shops and leather shops away from the tourist areas? Thanks!

Hi there Keith.

I would recommend visiting the School of Leather in Florence. You will be guaranteed genuine leather made IN Florence. My husband and I visited the school during our trip in the fall of 2022. When we visited during the early afternoon, it wasn’t busy or full of tourists. It was out of the way of the hustle and bustle and was behind a church. The grounds were quiet and serene.

I second the recommendation for the Leather School in Florence.

For jewelry, consider Carlo Cecchi di Ricchi Giuliano workshop. Be aware that he closes shop randomly.

The Oltrarno neighborhood of Florence has lots of artisans shops, art galleries, and restaurants.

For Venice, check out Venezia Autentica website:

In Venice, Il Grifone. Tourists do visit it but it’s listed on the website the previous poster contributed. The artisan owner works behind the counter and was creating leather items both times I visited. I liked the selection of products he offered. I purchased a zippered leather key holder as a gift for an older Venetian lady I was meeting and she loved it. I was in Venice for a week and when I went back to Il Grifone a second time to purchase gifts to bring home, the owner spontaneously gave me a small discount. I guess because I wasn’t a day tripper?

Another vote for the Leather School in Florence. I still use the purse I bought there almost 20 years ago:)
