When I was in Italy a year ago, it seemed that women were wearing predominately denim leggings (chic jeans) and tights. I'm returning to Italy in several weeks and am wondering if that is still the accepted kind of clothing. Hope so! I'll appreciate any fashion advice!! Thank you!
No one is paying attention to what you are wearing so wear whatever you want. Just dress more conservatively when going in churches.
I wear jeans there, anything from nice NYJD to more casual Lands' End in a dark wash. Very conservative as you never know what will keep you from being admitted to a church.
I see women in leggings and tops that are shorter than a miniskirt would be, backside uncovered. Seems less respectful than a short skirt so I don't know if you'd be admitted to a church like that.
Was in Italy in June and jeans and leggings are fine.

Jeans are fine... but I wouldn’t be caught dead in them if it’s going to be hot. Check the temperature. It’s not worth the sweat and discomfort. Really any type of wear is fine.
What Laura said -- for Italy in August I would prefer a below-the-knee flowy skirt for coolness.
