Thanks to all who responded to my plea for help regarding itinery. We will arrive Saturday, week before Easter. Three days in Rome, two days in Sorrento, leaving early Thursday am for a night in Florence, then on to Rome Good Friday. Should we buy a train pass. What can we expect riding train to Rome on Good Friday? I have booked accommodations with the help of Steve's books and this helpline. What did people do before this kind of help was possible?

Made a lot of trips to the public library for research and a lot of long distance phone calls. :)
I grant you that it was a little harder, but doable. I once had a trip planned to meet my husband in Palma de Mallorca when his ship pulled in for liberty. Two weeks before my trip, the port visit was cancelled and Rhodes, Greece was substituted for a week later. Had only 3 weeks to scramble to change my plane tickets and figure out where to stay and what to do for 10 days in Rhodes. Checked out some library books and bought a travel book (that I could take with me) for research. Found a hotel that would hold a reservation without a credit card (since we didn't have one) and made a long distance call to make the reservation. Turned out to be one of the best trips we had. Since it was a small place and we had plenty of time, we really soaked up the character and atmosphere and became temporary locals.
