itinerary suggestions-8 days in Tuscany and CT

We are planning 4 nights in Florence and thinking about cutting that down to three to spend another day in Tuscany-this due to the fact that we will be there over Easter weekend and most places require a 2 night minimum and think we will need definite reservations for that weekend

So...we were thinking of renting a car in Florence and going to Montepulciano for a day or two, Montalcino for a day and Siena for a day or two spending Easter weekend in Chianti and then taking the train to CT for two nights.

Does this sound doable? Any other stops we should consider, or get rid of Chianti at a vineyard over Easter?

Thanks for your assistance!

The itinerary does sound fine. Another idea would be to base yourself in Siena and then do day trips out to these other towns. Siena is a wonderful city and the other towns can be reached easily if you are renting a car. Otherwise, you could do your original plan. Hi,

I did actually the almost exact same trip last year: http://www.legendarytrips.com/trip/tuscany-italy-romantic-2-weeks-by-ak/

8 days should be enough although I would indeed recommend to cut your stay in Florence to 3 nights. It should be fine to enjoy the city and see the most important museums (e.g. Uffizi).

I wouldn't spend more than one day in Montepulciano or Montalcino. Instead I would take time to go through more towns (even if you stop only for one hour) and enjoy the scenic drives Val d'Orcia has to offer. Pienza and its surroundings are quite amazing for example.

A must see near Montalcino is Abbazia di Sant'Antimo. I would also recommend to spend a couple of nights in an agriturismo (traditional tuscan farm) in the countryside instead of staying in an hotel in town.

Hope this helps!
