Itinerary review

Hello - I value the inputs of everyone in the community and was hoping for some insights on this proposed agenda.

9/19 - arrive Venice from overnight US flight; spend day and night there
9/20 - rent a car and drive to Ortisei; spend 4 days there hiking and enjoying mountains
9/24 - return car in Bolzano and take train to Florence
Day trip to Siena, but otherwise spend 4 days in Florence before returning to US

We have been to Venice before. It’s not our favorite but don’t think it’s wise to drive that far after a red eye flight and therefore think will spend the first day/night there. Unless anyone has a recommendation on a stopover halfway between Venice and Ortisei?

Would there be better place to return the car and take the train to Florence?

Thank you.

Hello,
Just did a quick online search, and it seems there is a train from the Venice Airport to Verona. Since you are not a fan of Venice, that might be a good option. You could then go from Verona to Ortisei, about 2 hours 15 min by car. Another quick search shows there are car rentals in Verona. That would be a shorter drive than Venice to Ortisei. Or you could take the train from Verona to Ortisei, and get your car there.

Doing a trip to Siena from Florence is a great idea. It's a wonderful city, with plenty to see and do. It's walking in architectural splendor throughout. Visit the entire Duomo Complex, not just the cathedral. (Although we skipped the high bridge walk)

Where did you see a train from Venice airport to Verona? Not on Rome2Rio I hope. They are often wrong. There might’ve bus us from the airport to Verona, but for a train you would have to go to Mestre, by taxi or bus.

In the details it indicates a bus to Mestre then a fast train

There is no train station at VCE

Use the Trenitalia site for accurate info
