Our family of 4 (including children 17 and 12) has traveled a number of times to locations around Europe, but never to Italy. We are going to split time home bases in Sorrento and Rome over a week in March. I'm struggling a bit with the Italy itinerary and am looking for a reality check on the first part of our trip. Plan at this point looks like this:
Saturday, March 23 - flight lands in Rome 5:50 pm, sleep in Rome
Sunday, March 24 - train to Naples, Circumvesuviana on to Sorrento; consider storing bags at train station for very short visit to Naples on the way
Monday, March 25 - day trip with private driver to see Amalfi Coast OR day trip to Capri
Tuesday, March 26 - explore Sorrento all day
Wednesday, March 27 - early trip to Pompeii; onward to Rome after the visit; arrive in Rome later afternoon
The balance of the week (afternoon of Wednesday, March 27 - morning of Saturday, March 30 when we fly home) is in Rome.
Mainly, I'm wondering if the first half of the week is too hectic or unrealistic, or if the logistics seem like they would fit better in a different way.
Appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
