Itinerary question for Tuscany and Amalfi coast

Hi,

We are a family of 4 planning to visit Italy for 10 days in middle of May 2025. This will be our second visit to the country. We covered Milan, Venice, Pisa, Florence, Rome and Pompei in our previous visit. Looking forward to exploring the Tuscany region and Amalfi coast in this trip.

Based upon my research have come up with the itinerary below matching our interests and time. We will be flying into Milan and flying out of Naples. We prefer to drive only on the Tuscany region and ferry around the Amalfi coast( motion sickness issues).Have listed questions and would really appreciate any input. Thanks in advance for your time!

Day 1: Arrive in Milan around 2 pm
Day 2: Lake Como
Question 1: Stay in Milan near train station on day 1 & day 2 or in Lake Como area? Also where in Lake COmo?

Day 3: Leave to Florence(fast train) and then catch bus or train to Siena
Days 4, 5 & 6- Tuscany region
Question 2: We plan to go around Siena first and then visit couple walled towns. Which towns are recommended? Should we stay in Siena or base ourselves in another town?
Question 3: Where to drop off rental car before heading to Naples? I see lot mention Orvieto.

Day 7: Arrive at Naples.
Day 8,9 : Amalfi coast
Day 10 : Amalfi coast and get back to Naples for flight next morning
Question 4: Days 7, 8 and 9 the girls would love to stay in a beach setting. Whih place would be good to stay?

Thanks!

Just a suggestion that I would strongly consider: save Lake Como for a future visit, head immediately to Tuscany.
Put those two days toward the other places. You could rent and return a car in Siena, which may be simplest. You could also look into finding a rental that can be dropped off at Rome airport, then continue by train to Salerno to transfer to ferry to Amalfi Coast (travelmar). ***Start looking at accommodations now!

If you definitely want to see Lake Como stay in Varenna as it is on the train line.

Don't stay in Milan. Use day 1 to get to wherever you're spending your first few days, so you'll have a full day there the next day instead of having to use up half a day to travel. Days are long in May, so you can get anywhere by dark.
When you get to Siena, consider a tour of Tuscany rather than renting a car. There are many great guides who can do a private tour or you could do a group tour to save a few bucks. Consider what you'd spend on a rental car and the value of leaving the driving to someone else so you can enjoy the scenery and the wine. :) Many recommendations for tour guides on this site.
There have been a ton of questions here lately about the Amalfi Coast and where to stay. Use the search function, select "travel forum" and "1 year or newer" to review responses that have already been given. Pros and cons to everywhere so you'll have to decide what's important to you.
