Trying to decide what order to spend a week by myself in Italy while my husband is working. We will be parting in Venice on a Sunday (preferably after lunch) and meeting up again in Rome the next Saturday (preferably mid morning or noon). Option 1: Train from Venice to Florence; stay 3 nights (Sunday-Tuesday); includes a day trip to Siena Train from Florence to CT (maybe with quick stop in Pisa on the way); stay 3 nights (Wednesday-Friday) probably in Monterosso Saturday: morning train to Rome Option 2:
Same amount of time in each place, but switch Florence and CT. I'm not sure if there's much of a difference either way?
"I'm not sure if there's much of a difference either way?" I'm not sure, either. You've probably seen the train schedules: Venice to CT is a lot of travel time and you go through Florence (probably) to get to CT. If you stop in Florence (Venice - Florence, instead of Venice - CT), you shorten that day's travel time. But the tradeoff is that you have longer travel time on the CT - Rome leg, compared to Florence - Rome (which is 1hr 35mins on fastest trains).
what time of the year? This January? Next summer?
We'll, the dates aren't firmed up yet, but I'm planning for late May-early June.
