Itinerary look doable?

In some cities I may have listed more than we can do. Will pick out what seems best later. I am not someone who has to keep tightly to my original schedule. Just trying to get a feel of what is good and possible to see and do.

  1. Sept 2 Arr Milano 8:45 a.m. - train/bus to Torino, one+day
  2. Sept 4 Lv for Varzo, a small town above Domodossola, one+ day
  3. Sept 6 Lv for Venizia and a couple of side trips, Otzi, 1-2 of the small towns, the islands. 3+ days
  4. Sept 10 lv for Firenze, side trip to Siena, Lucca/Pisa, Fiesole? --- will see the sights in the area 4+ days
  5. Sept 15 lv for Rome, side trips to Ostia Antica, maybe a couple more - Vatican, colesseum/forum, Baths of Diocletian, Pantheon, Via Appia, San Callisto 4+ days What about Gaeta? I just came across the name as a good place to see, but no other info.
  6. Sept 20 Lv for one day trip to Adelfia di Bari. 1 day
  7. Sept 20 Arr back in Rome, stay at airport hotel
  8. Sept 22 Lv for home

There is an extra day to readjust this itinerary.

The reason we are going to Torino for a little more that a day is that originally my plans called for us to be in Venezia during the Venice Film Festival ..... there is a dearth of rentals for that weekend!

The reason for the short stay in Bari is that no one is left who knows us. We may have to o/n due to train schedule. I have one extra empty day, the 21th, that we can use if we find someone who is family in Bari.

So for a trip that we planned to stay only in three cities and day trip from there has morphed into this.
Is this going to be a killer???

Many tnx

Seems reasonable to me, esp. since you are traveling open-jaw -- I am not the Italy expert others in this forum are, but I would say that your 4 days in Florence seems like a lot to me. Perhaps stay overnight in Siena. I did once, a good many years ago, and had a great time.

Really not going to Milan?

Milan is a big financial center, tall buildings.
Three things to do there are:
Leonardo's Last Supper (advance reservations required and difficult to get);
Milan Duomo, especially the rooftop
Galleria across the street (diagonally) from the Duomo.
1 night at most.
Most people here spend 3 nights in Florence, unless you're doing a lot of day trips.
IMO 4 nights is a minimum for Rome, it only gives you 3 days of seeing things including any day trips you're doing.
Are you really staying at the airport hotel 2 nights? Maybe that's your adjustment thing. Don't stay at the airport hotel more than 1 night.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We mainly wanted to go the Alps where my family is from and where we have friends. Because of the Venice Film Festival, we have to stay a couple of nights somewhere else before we go there, and my son wanted to see Torino. We had planned to stay only in Venezia, Firenze and Roma, and day trip from there but had to add Torino and also Adelfia di Bari, to see where my son's grandparents are from.

We don't want to be hurring from here to there, would rather take our time and enjoy. My only anxiety at the moment is Adelfia di Bari. Are there taxis at all train stations? I remember the town being a little remote, at least the part we were in. So once I get that figured out I think things will work out well.

This will probably be my last trip to Italy so I am really anxious to "be in the moment"
And thanks aagain for all the suggestions I have received. I really appreciate them.

Also, does anyone know of a nice hotel in the Termini area? Last time we were there my son noticed it and said it would be nice to spend a night or two there. He said it looked real classy outside. Any suggestions that won't break the bank?????

tnx.....

Not sure I would describe the Termini area as really classy. Pleasant enough though.

The classy-looking area near Termini may be Piazza Della Repubblica, a couple of hotels are there and a beautiful fountain in the roundabout.

Quirinale section of Rome or a hotel with that name?
