Itinerary/lodging help 6 days Amalfi coast

Hello, we will be in Ischia for a conference the first week of April. We are going to tack on a Saturday through Friday stay on the Amalfi coast to relax and enjoy the people and food, maybe some hikes. The only tourist thing we want to do is Pompeii and the museum in Naples.

So, our rough plan now is to spend Friday night in Naples and see the museum Saturday then go out to to Pompei Sunday.

After this we would like to travel to Amalfi and stay put until we leave.

Travel questions:

  1. What is the best way to travel from Naples to Amalfi?
  2. Lodging recommendations for Naples ? We don’t want super high end room service etc but would love a nice place near some great food. Our daughter says we have to have pizza there!
  3. Lodging recommendations for Amalfi? We want relaxation and access to the ferry and hiking please. Any restaurants you recommend are appreciated.
  4. Flights from Naples to Atlanta require at least one connection. Is it worth it to fly from Naples with a connection rather than try to travel back to Rome for a direct flight?

Btw how would we travel Amalfi to Rome airport?

Thanks! I usually have more time to plan but just had this trip come up!

I can’t advise you on the best way to get from Naples to Amalfi, but I can offer how I traveled there. I took a bus from Naples airport directly to the ferry port (about an hour journey). You may be able to take a train from Naples central station to Salerno (walk from Salerno station to the ferry is not far / maybe 10 minutes.) I stayed in Hotel Amalfi, a modest hotel with a rooftop where you can have breakfast if warm and sunny. This hotel is near the ferry and buses. No specific recommendations for restaurants as most I went to were good. I took a day trip to Rapello and was not disappointed. Beautiful gardens and spectacular views, cute shops. The bus ride up and down was quite exciting! Good luck and safe travels.
