Itinerary help: Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre, Portofino?

We are flying into Venice spending for 4 nights. Also want to travel to Florence and Cinque Terre then on to France and flying home from France. What is the best order: from Venice to Florence to Cinque Terre then France, or from Venice to Cinque Terre to Florence then France? Trying to work out transportation between the cities

Hi nmtebbe. Logical order is Venice, Florence, CT. You don't say where you are going in France. If Paris, there are good flights from Pisa to Paris on EasyJet. Enjoy your trip!

Hi nmtebbe,

We just got back. Four nights in Venice sounds like a bit much. Go to Florence before Cinque Terre. You might want to hit Pisa since it is on the way from Florence to Cinque Terre. Be sure to pack light while in Cinque Terre and not lug your bags around or check them at La Spezia. Rick's book was pretty much accurate.

I have a different take on Venice than the comment above – I do not think 4 days is too long. I've spent several weeks in Venice over the course of a few visits, and I still look forward to my next visit.

In Venice you can easily spend one day wandering in the city, which many find to be one of the most enjoyable experiences; one day for San Marco and one or two of the museums or other churches; one day for the islands; and one day for a day trip (Padua, Verona, Ravenna, Lake Garda, etc.).

France is a big place, where exactly?
If you are looking at heading to the south of France: Venice => Florence => Cinque Terre => Nice by train
If you are looking at heading to Paris: Venice => Florence => Cinque Terre => Pisa for flights to Paris

Agree with Sherri -- 4 nights in Venice (which gives you 3 full days) is not too much particularly if it is your first trip.

Venice to Florence to Cinque Terre to Portofino to France is easily done by train.

Thanks for all of the advice. Is there enough to do inCinque Terre in the middle of November? We are considering making this a day trip instead of staying a night or two, worried the weather will be bad and shops & restaurants might be closing for the winter.

Four nights in Venice is definitely not too much. We spent five days there in 2013 & are planning to return next year for another five days. There is a lot to see & do there.
