Itinerary help Rome, Cinque Terre, Portofino, Lake Como, Milan

Hi,
I am planning a trip beginning in Rome for 10-14 days. From Rome we would like to travel to Cinque Terre, Portofino, Lake Como & Milan. I’m trying to figure out the logistics of traveling between cities by train. How do I get from Portofino to Lake Como? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. This forum has been a lifesaver for a few of my European trips.

Rather than staying in Portofino, consider staying in Santa Margherita Ligure and/or Camogli. We fled Portofino after a few hours due to crowds and the focus on high end shopping.

I think you can drop Portofino, unless you have a reason. 14 days and 3-4 locations is more than enough.
Perhaps Reverse your trip. Fly into Venice or Milan and out of Rome.
Lake Como is an hour train from Milan Central.
When? Group size, age, interests ?
We can help more with additional details.
Safe travels

Portofino is not served by train
You would take the bus or ferry or a taxi to Santa Margherita Ligure or to Rapallo to catch a fast train to Milano Centrale
From there it’s a regional train to Varenna-Esino

Getting to Portofino from CT would be opposite-train to Rapallo then onward to Portofino

Always use the Italian station names

We didn’t find Portofino all that interesting
Not much there
But we loved Santa Margherita Ligure
Not sure you need either if you are spending time in CT
Maybe drop CT and stay in Santa Margherita -it’s less touristy, less crowded , more real
You could visit CT from there if you wanted

Hi. Thanks for your quick responses. I will already be in Rome & my husband is meeting me there. That’s why Rome is our starting point. I plan on taking him to the major cites in Rome & journey onward. Portofino has been on my husband’s bucket list, so a night or 2 there is a must. I’m trying to plan this for him. I’m open to any suggestions.
