Heading to Amalfi Coast in April. We did Venice, Florence, Rome this year and loved it! So much in fact we want to return. With that said, it was very busy. This time we are looking for a more leisurely trip without the added pressure of having to "see" everything. So, here goes: Positano 5 nights, (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello ) Sorrento 2 nights, Capri 2 nights. We will still have 1 more night which we will spend in Naples for an early flight out the next morning. Pompeii is the only "must do" on my list. Will a private care service take us from Sorrento to Naples (with luggage) and stop at Pompeii and then continue on to our our Naples hotel?? Thanks
Or visit Pompeii by Circumvesuviana train while staying in Sorrento. Are you in Capri after Sorrento? I think there are ferries from Capri to Naples. Leave some time to see the Naional Archaeology Museum in Naples and maybe the RS self-guided walking tour that starts across the street from the museum.

That's what I'd do. You don't need two days JUST for the town, and Pompeii is so easy from there by train. Depending on how much time you want to spend at the scavi, you'll still have a good chunk of a day for Sorrento. We enjoyed the town most during the late afternoon/evening hours anyway as the light across the Gulf of Naples is prettiest at that time (take your gelato to Villa Comunale to watch the sunset) and they close Corsa Italia to traffic every night for pedestrian-only shopping and strolling.
Your Sorrento experience might be better limited to a day trip. You will have spent 4 days on the Coast already and Sorrento won't vary that much. Spend the night either in Capri (but that isn't going to overload you either) or Naples. Enjoy the pizza.
Or travel down to Salerno for some time.

There are. This is the current schedule:

While fewer ferries will probably be running in the spring, there should still be service between these ports.
Listen to Chani & Kathy.
Pompei is the perfect day trip from Sorrento, a town that doesn't have all that many attractions by itself. As I said in a couple previous threads, Sorrento's a good base from which to daytrip, and then come back to nap & then dine at any number of solid restaurants, from fine dining to just normal Italian cuisine. Did not have even close to a mediocre meal there--they all were at least very good, and some were superior.
Would love for you to also be able to fit in the Archeological Museum in Naples, which is like the bookend to Pompei--it contains all the art taken from the ruins in the 1750's--simply fabulous, and we didn't even get to the Farnese wing, which is supposed to be incredible in its own right. That could be another daytrip on the CV, as long as you're in Sorrento for two nights and will have already seen the A.C.
Thanks...good advice as always.
