Itinerary help - Pisa and Cinque Terre

Planning a trip to Italy with stops in Venice and Rome. I've got three days free and would like to visit Pisa and Cinque Terre on my way from Venice to Rome. What would be a good home base to visit these two areas? I was thinking maybe Pisa, but would it be better to stay in Cinque Terre? Any other suggestions?

Where else are you staying and for how long? ( or is it just Venice and Rome?)

When will this trip take place?

Is '3 days' = to 3 nights?

3 nights in each city. So arrive in Venice, spend 3 nights, on the 4th day travel to west coast for three nights, then end in Rome for three more nights.

It's a long trip from Venice to Cinque Terre, so you might as well make a day of it and stop to visit Pisa on the way. Leave Venice by around 9am and you should arrive in Cinque Terre in time to settle into you lodgings and have dinner. I'd suggest staying in Monterosso. Depart Monterosso at 7:25am on day 7 and connect to the direct Freccia train at La Spezia that gets you to Rome around noon. I believe that plan will maximize your time in each location.

Frank has the perfect plan. I had looked at something similar for next summer.

There are two train stations in Pisa. The San Rossore is a 5 minute walk from the Tower and Field of Miracles. There is a luggage storage at the Field of Miracles. Either station will get you to Monterosso so if it works better to come into Pisa Centrale, you can take a €10 taxi or walk 30 minutes. RS also has a good walking tour from train station (Centrale) to Tower. You can also store your bags at the Centrale station. Just check train timetables at Trenitalia. It’s an hour train ride from Pisa to Monterosso and there are at least 2 per hour.

If you are wanting to climb the tower, you will need to reserve a time entry on line. It can be done in person, but not fit your schedule.

Frank and Kelly, thank you for your suggestions. This is more or less what I had in mind, but good to know about the luggage storage in Pisa. That will make this easier.
