itinerary help italy

We are flying into Zurich and getting there next sat at 2pm. no set plans except thought about driving to Lucerne and then to florence. wanted to stay 1 night in florence then at least 3 nights in Tuscany then make our way to venice for 2 nights where we fly out of. We actually have 2 nights extra that we can stay somewhere. Any suggestions? Thank you

Don't drive in Florence. Do a search for the ZTL threads. I would add a night to Florence and one to Venice.

Note that if you drive in Switzerland, your car must be equipped with a "vignette" in the proper place on the window. It's the law. Second, have you checked into drop off charges for your car if you intend to drop it off in Italy? Most important, and as mentioned above, please don't drive in any historical area of Florence. These are restricted zones and they catch your license plate with cameras as you enter. Reportedly, Florence issues 600 tickets a day to violators. I'm betting that most are tourists who don't understand the signs for the restricted zones. Youl will be cited for each different zone you enter so you can accumulate tickets. Just don't drive there.

If you go to Florence, you could leave the car at the airport. But what can you do in Florence for 1 night? Can't see Michelangelo's David or the Uffizi (need reservations). Guess you could see the duomo and Boboli gardens and walk around. Need more time there to see the important stuff.

would it make more sense for us to just get to siena and then take the bus up to Florence? I think there are alot more accommodations outside of siena that are vehicle friendly. We could stay 2 nights in florence if needed. we have been there before.
