Itinerary HELP in Western Sicily

Need of suggestions/recommendations on what cities to stay in Western Sicily. I'm staying in Palermo for a few days and plan on renting a car the remaining 10 days. I wanted to use 3 cities as a base & was thinking of the following areas but unsure if they were to touristic in terms of pricing for lodging: Castellamare del Golfo: 3 days / Selinute: 4 days / Agrigento: 3 days. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS!!

We went to Sicily for a week. We stayed in Taormina, Cefalu, Agrigento and Palermo. Taormina and Cefalu are very touristy and very nice. We found nice reasonable accommodations in both. We really enjoyed Cefalu. It has a new and old town also great beaches. We used Agrigento to see the roman temples in that area. It also has an old town. We had difficulty finding our hotel and it wasn't very nice. The people were very helpful everywhere. Palermo is a driving nightmare. People disregard all rules of the road. We have driven many times in Europe and Italy and this was by far the scariest. The scenery was amazing throughout the Island.

I'm with Anita on Cefalu. All dependent on what you like to do on holiday, but if it is active, the Madonie Mountains not far from Cefalu for hiking/walks. Hike up to the top of La Rocca (not the belvedere) for a stunning view. Or just flop on the beaches there. Ryan Air has links to inexpensive apartments. I had a tiny studio in the old town. Trapani was my base for Segesta and Erice. Hardly an exciting town but easy to get around. Used a B&B there, Palermo and in Agrigento for my western section.

The towns of Castellammare del Golfo and Selinunte are not touristy at all. There are more tourists in Agrigento, but not really in town, more at the temples.

Selinunte and Agrigento are too close to each other to warrant staying in both, and since Selinunte lacks many hotel choices, stay in Agrigento instead.

You would still need a town in the far west, so Erice or Trapani would be logical choices. Erice is more touristy and there are many day trippers, but it is quiet at night.

With Palermo, Agrigento, Erice-Trapani and Castellammare, you would have western Sicily covered.
