Itinerary help, half way-ish between Ticino Switzerland and Tuscany?

My wife, son, and his girlfriend will be staying a few nights in Ticino region late May, and then need to head towards Tuscany (by car) for a wedding. We have 2 open nights, and I planned on a stop somewhere along that path for those 2 days. Looking for suggestions for fun/culture/food/drink and general bonding. TIA!

which bit of Tuscany? Which bit of Ticino? Sort of like saying Arizona to California. Lots of choices - can you narrow it down a bit please?

Ahh, sorry, was not familiar with the sizes, but should be!

It is Cadenazzo, and then Florence….

Thank you!

Often posters here ask for places where there is culture, food and drink. But is there a town on this planet without culture, without food, or without drink? I think you can find that in any Italian (or Ticinese) town.

Assuming the departure point is Cadenazzo, and the arrival point is Florence in Tuscany, the half way point is around Parma.

Parma is a pretty city to visit, which certainly has food and drink, and also significant cultural sights. It is not a big city, but like all towns in Italy, it has traffic restrictions in the historical center core (aka Zona Traffico Limitato, or Limited Traffic Zone, or ZTL), therefore they need to find accommodations outside the restricted area, as only residents' cars with permit can enter those zone without getting fined.

Not far from Parma there are also a few pretty castles and fortified villages that are famous, and, if they have the time, they could visit on a short day trip from Parma. Examples could be Torrechiara, Montechiarugolo, or also Busseto, the birthplace of composer Giuseppe Verdi. However if they only have two nights (basically a full day), Parma has enough to keep them busy for that full day. Then the next morning they can make their way to Tuscany (another 2.5 to 3 hours drive, depending on traffic and exact final destination)
