Itinerary help for March

My 17 year old daughter and I are considering a week in Italy during a longer trip to Europe at the end of March. We would fly in from and return to the UK, probably with a low cost airline but not necessarily from the same airport in Italy.

We were in Venice 9 years ago and Bologna last year. We were in Rome, Sora and a day trip to Pompei and Sorrento when she was a baby. I would go back to Bologna in a minute but maybe we should try somewhere new!

We like walking/hiking, getting a feel for the place, vistas and gelato. I also like art galleries, historical places, museums. She likes going back to the accommodation and “chilling”.

We prefer a place with cooking facilities but can punctuate that with hotel stays as needed. It suits my diet/ health issues to not eat out every meal. To be honest, putting together a meal is meditative for me and lets my daughter do her own thing. One meal and/or aperativo out each day is plenty for us.

I’m leaning towards Naples, Pompeii/ Herculaneum, Amalfi Coast, further south and Capri. I’m happy to get a car for a few days. I get that done seasonal places may not yet be open. I am hoping to keep accommodation prices low.

Any suggestions for itineraries for that time of year?

Sandra,
How nice that you and your daughter are making another trip to Italy!

You mentioned that you had been to Pompeii and Sorrento when she was a baby, but are open to visiting again. That's a great, idea!
She might find the magnitude of events, and the walk through Pompeii fascinating. About 5 years ago, we spent a week in Sorrento, with day trips to Pompeii, Naples and Capri. We didn't go to Ischia or Procida, but I wish we had! You could do all that from Sorrento.
We drove to Pompeii, but took the train to Naples. Not sure about ferries in late March. You could check that out.

For accommodations, you might try an apartment hotel, where you could do some light cooking. Booking.com might be a good place to start looking. Or Airbnb.

Good luck!
