Itinerary Help for July Trip

4 adults, all fit and mid-30s. This is what we have planned based on personal interests. Please tell me your thoughts!!

Saturday: Arrive 9:30am. We have arranged for a Colosseum and Forum tour with Francesca (recommended by Rick.) Trying to bust through the jetlag that day.

Sunday: We are attending a local congregation of our church in the morning. 4:30pm Borghese Gallery tickets. Heart of Rome walk in the late evening.

Monday: Walks of Italy Pristine Sistine Tour (early entrance). 7:15 am. Dolce Vita Stroll

Tuesday: 8 am Train to Florence. 12:30pm Accademia tour. Renaissance walk, Piazza Michelangelo.

Wednesday: 2 of us are staying in Florence, 2 of us are going to CT for the day.

Thursday: Train to Venice.

Friday: Venice

Saturday: Depart Venice.

Notes:
*I know the heat will be a factor but hoping for the best.
*It seems like we have lots of downtime in Rome, especially Sunday morning/afternoon and Monday afternoon/evening. Any suggestions?
*Any suggestions on the daytrip to the CT? The couple that is taking it has been to Florence many times before but has never done the CT.

Any tips in general are appreciated. Thank you!!

A busy schedule, given how hot Rome can get you could do what all good Romans do in the heat of the day - a long lunch and siesta! Or if you feel you must do/see more visit National Museum of Rome or Capitaline Museum or get out of the city and walk along the Appian Way (its closed to traffic on Sunday).

You will enjoy Francesca - she is a very knowledgable lady and her love of Rome comes through.

I am worried about a Forum/Colosseo tour on the day of arrival as you won't be able to start the tour until the hottest part of the day. A 9:30 landing means arrive at lodgings about Noon, so what time are you meeting Francesca?

One evening you could enjoy the outdoor Viaggi nei Fori, which are superbly done.

You might also fit in Le Domus Romane if they have any opening left on the English tours. you must reserve in advance.

Thank you for replying!!!

I was also concerned about touring the Colosseum during the heat of the day. I emailed Francesca and expressed my concern to her. She suggested meeting at 4pm. We realize it will be hot. Two of us are coming from Phoenix Arizona, so we aren't un-used to heat, but I have the same concern as you. The only other time to tour would be Sunday morning early, which isn't totally out of the question. Thoughts?

Whoever is staying in Florence I highly recommend getting reservations first thing in the morning for the dome climb! Maybe then uffizi in the afternoon.

It takes a while to get to the CT. I probably wouldn't do it as a day trip because you'd be traveling longer than you'd actually be there.

Colosseum heat not bad because there is shade to be found. However the forum has very little shade. Also it can be humid, it's been high 80s since we've been here but with 50-60% humidity which wears on you.

1 week is not very much time to visit 3 cities. You don't want to be traveling longer than you're at your destination. Just a thought.
