Day 2: Full day in Venice. Sleep in Venice

Day 3: Venice to Florence by train. Spend remaining time in Venice. Sleep in Florence

Day 4: Day trip to countryside/winery, sleep in Florence

Day 5: Day trip to countryside/winery, sleep in Florence

Day 6: Florence to base in Liguria coast or Cinque Terre via train

Day 7: Liguria coast/Cinque Terre

Day 8: Liguria coast/Cinque Terre, travel to Milan by train. Spend night in Milan.

Day 9: Leave from Milan at 11:00 AM

Questions:

· For Days 3-5, is it best to base out of Florence? We have no preference towards Florence, but thought this would be the easiest base to transport to/from. Also, what winery/countryside trips or tours do you recommend?

· For Days 6-7, should we base out of somewhere in Liguria or Cinque Terre? We want to go to CT and another location along Liguria. What places in Liguria near CT would you recommend?

· Would it be possible to travel by train between the locations mentioned? Should I purchase train tickets in advance?

We’re interested in wine vineyards, food, sightseeing, biking/hiking, nice scenery/landscapes.

Thank you in advance!! :)

Overall a good plan, decent pace, not too terribly fast, but you are moving along.

If your interest in Tuscany is wine and countryside, you might consider renting a car for this portion and staying in a wine town: Montalcino, Montepulciano, Greve-in-Chianti all come to mind. You could take the train to Florence, rent the car and leave town to stay in your more rural location. Keep the car to La Spezia and drop it off there, taking the train into the Cinque Terre.

OR you can stay in Florence and sign on to some escorted wine tours. Tours By Roberto does a great job, for one. And/or maybe a bicycle trip into Chianti. Surely someone has one.

Tell me when are you going to visit Florence? You seem to sleep there but do not seem to dedicate any time to it.

You will be amazed at how easy the train travel is. As for places in Liguria, I liked Santa Margherita, but it isn't as nice as CT. For wine towns outside of Florence, I loved Montepulciano. The food in northern Italy is the best. Enjoy.

If you aren't planning to see much of Florence, you may enjoy staying somewhere else - maybe Siena.
