Want to spend 9 or 10 days in Sardinia at the end of September. Flying in from the US. Second leg of this trip will be equal amount of time in Sicily. Places on my list I would like to see include boat tour of Maddalena Archipelago and a couple other beaches near where we base on Sardinia (suggestions on base?). Also want to see Alghero, Bosa and beaches near Cagliari. I am thinking I should fly into Olbia and out of Cagliari. We will have a car rental. Interested in base near boat tour with other beach options, Should I stay in Alghero and drive back and forth to Bosa or plan to spend a night there on my way south? Also nice town near Cagliari to base for beaches and nice towns. How should I divide my time?
I focused on the east but hope some of this is helpful. You'll want to be near Palau for the Maddalena island departures, so I would search in that vicinity if you fly into Olbia. You'll want to find somewhere close enough to make the boat trip time but not too far from the airport to drive on arrival. I just searched on Booking.com until I found something suitable for my needs. If you end up flying into Alghero, I might stay there first without the car and pick it up as you depart. It sort of depends on how long you like to stay per place and what kind of drive south you want. It will be faster to take the highway south, but kind of a shame to have a car and not use it on the Orientale Sarda because if you like scenic drives, it is tops.
Bosa is the type of place I am drawn to stay, but I know it can be a day trip from Alghero.
I would pick any one of these places and spend all nine nights, but 3-3-3 would give you the quick overview you are looking for.
