Itinerary for Amalfi Coast ??

Thinking of flying into Naples then to Sorrento for some much needed rest. Base there for day trips. Recommendation for place to stay... 3 couples ... with good walking or shuttle. Then bus to Positano and Amalfi. Stay in Amalfi a few nights. Is there enough to do in the Amalfi Coast for 7 days?

I have nothing to add, but commenting as a reminder to check back in to this post. We have a similar wish to make Sorrento a home base and do day trips.

I think there is plenty to do in Amalfi for 7 days. Especially if you go to Capri or Pompeii. We stayed in Sorrento at La Magnolia. Very nice, breakfast, and practically on the town square. It was about 1/2 mile to the train station which was handy since the buses leave from the train station.

Are you staying in Naples any?
From Sorrento: Capri day trip, Pompeii day trip, Naples day trip, hiking
From Amalfi: hiking, beach, visit other villages

Don’t miss Ravello. It’s way better than Positano, which is mostly filled with tourist-oriented shops. There are two beautiful villas in Ravello, one of which has a garden with absolutely stunning coastal views. If you are there at the right time, you can catch a concert at the other. The cathedral is small, but interesting and pretty.

We spent 3 nights in Sorrento and we wanted to stay much longer! I think 7 days is perfect! You might consider staying in Sorrento a few nights and spending time in the northern end (Naples/museum, Pompeii/Mt Vesuvius, and Capri) and then a few nights in Amalfi (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello maybe something else?). We stayed in Palazzo Starace in Sorrento and loved it.

Ami, if you take a bus from Sorento to Amalfi, wear motion sickness bracelets to prevent nausea. The friend I was traveling with plus myself were so sick by the time the bus arrived in Amalfi, she and I spent a half hour trying to recover.
If you're interested in seeing well preserved Greek ruins, you can rent a car for a day in Amalfi and drive to Paestum (1h 45m).

We spent 10 days in Naples and Amalfi coast a couple years ago and could have spent another couple days.

One mistake we made was staying in both Positano and Amalfi. An Italian friend questioned that decision and he was right. Amalfi was the better of the two in my view.

Do take the ferry between Positano and Amalfi. Much nicer than the bus.

Also, we spent our last full day on Capri. We left our luggage in storage and then took ferry back to Naples the night before flying out.

Plan to visit Paestum, too...for ancient Greek ruins!

The first time we went to Ravello we met a couple from Boston that rent the same villa in Ravello every year for a month. At first we thought that was kind of boring and wondered why they wouldn’t want to explore other areas of Italy……well we are headed back to Ravello in a few weeks for the fourth time and I’m kind of bummed that we only have one week there.
