itinerary for 7 days in Sicily

We have seven(maybe eight) days in Sicily. Using RS Sicily guide for recommended itinerary(by car) we would like some feedback on this plan:

4/21 From California, arrive in Palermo, 2:35 p.m. Stay three nights in Palermo Historic Center

4/24 Get rental car and drive to Valley of the Temples; Stay one night in Agrigento(or should be push ahead and drive all the way to Siracusa and get settled for three nights instead of two nights.

4/25 Morning drive to Noto; then to Siracusa; begin sightseeing; stay two nights in Siracusa

4/27 Drive to Mt. Etna; overnight two nights Taormina

4/29 Fly from Cantania to Florence(staying with friends in Lucca for four or five nights)

We have our SFO to Palermo tickets and then Rome to SFO tickets as well.
We haven't booked our Catania to Florence ticket yet because we are undecided if we should add one more day to Sicily(to Total 8 nights) and then visit Lucca for four nights, instead of 5 nights.

5/4. Drive Rental to Villa south wast of Perugia.

First off, the more nights you can shift to Sicily the better. You may get back to Tuscany, but it’s unlikely you’ll be able to mix in Sicily again (unless you love it of course.)

I would stay the night in or near Agrigento for sure. It’s a solid drive between both ends and I would not do that all in one day, not at all.

Getting to Noto is a little awkward. You’ll actually go past Siracusa to get there if you’re taking the autostrada, and I recommend taking the autostrada. Instead, consider stopping to see Villa Romana del Casale on the way, and skip Noto. Noto is nice and wort seeing, but it’s better as a day trip from Siracusa. If you take your Lucca night and use it at Siracusa then Noto makes sense. Ortigia offers some of that same Baroque architecture that Noto has, and is super enjoyable.

This is very helpful. I can now see that we'd enjoy the drive from the west to the east will be much more enjoyable with an overnight in Agrigento. Good!
We'll spend the extra night on Sicily. We'll take it at Siracusa(not in Taormina). Do you have a recommendation for overnight in Siracusa? Or is Ortigia more interesting?

I think four nights in Lucca will be plenty. With the first day (4/30) flying/transferring from Catania to Florence to Lucca, that would give us three days/nights with friends in Lucca/Pisa. Then we need to get down to Perugia to rent car to get to villa 30 minutes from Perugia. Do you think we should pick up a car in Lucca and drive down to Perugia? or maybe we should take the train to Perugia and pick up a car? We need car to get around from the villa.

Thanks for sharing your advice and time. Really generous of you.

Ortygia is the medieval section of Siracusa. It would definitely be the most attractive area to stay in if you find a suitable lodging.

Driving time Lucca-Perugia per ViaMichelin.com is roughly 2-1/2 hours (possibly something of an underestimate). The train will take more like four hours. If you're going to want a car in Perugia the day you arrive, I think renting in Lucca makes sense. If you have at least a day's worth of local sightseeing to do without a car, that could change things. And the rental rates might be different.

However, I'm not clear what day of the week you plan to go to Perugia. Few car-rental agencies are open on Sunday, and I believe some are also closed Saturday afternoon.
