I’m taking my 16 yr old daughter on a trip to the following places in May 2025: Florence, Verona and Chamonix, France. We will have 10 days total and would love to have suggestions on where to fly in/out of and how to travel between locations. We would rather not rent a car. We would also love suggestions on how long to stay in each location. Thanks.
Where are you flying from? Sydney? Auckland? Mumbai? Singapore? Toronto? Vancouver? SFO? Johannesburg? NYC?
People asking for advice in this forum come from all corners of the world. Knowing your home airport gives us a better clue on the best flight path to take.
Sorry, I should’ve said that we’ll be flying from Cincinnati originally with a connection flight probably through JFK or Atlanta.
See if you can find a flight from Cincinnati (CVG) to Florence (FLR) via Paris (CDG) using Delta/Air France (Delta and Air France are partners with SkyTeam Alliance and Delta has non stop flights from CVG to Paris CDG in May. That option entails only one layover in Paris CDG. All other flight options to Florence would probably require 2 layovers.
From Florence to Verona it’s an easy train journey with no train changes required.
From Verona to Chamonix the easiest way it’s probably a fast high speed train To Turin , then a Flixbus Bus from Turin to Chamonix.
The closest airport to Chamonix for your return trip is Geneva (GVA). From GVA to CVG, assuming you take the Delta/AirFrance to Florence going would be to fly to CVG with Delta and/or Air France via JFK or Paris CDG.
Therefore your best flight option is a multi city open jaw flight as follows:
Going
From CVG to FLR via Paris CDG (with Delta/Air France)
Returning
From GVA to CVG via Paris CDG (with AirFrance/Delta) or via New York JFK (with Delta).
The above entails only one layover.
Flights to North America depart in the morning so you will probably need to spend the night before your flight in Geneva as the trip from Chamonix is well over an hour by car, but by bus it’s likely to take over2 hours (and even longer by train).
Delta (and their partner Air France) is your friend.
