Itinerary Advice: Rome to Venice

Our tour starts in Venice and ends in Rome. We are trying to decide if we fly in & out or Rome or do we just fly straight to Venice.
We've considered taking the train from Rome to Siena on our way to Venice or going straight to Venice and chill for a couple of days before meeting our tour? Any advice is appreciated.

One thought would be to get multi-city tickets flying into Venice and home from Rome. The cost of this option would be similar to a round trip ticket, and would save backtracking to your arrival city.

Multi city is also known as open jaw, and is not the same as purchasing two one way tickets.

Are you familiar with booking flights 'open jaw' or 'multi-city' (different airlines call it different things), in which you fly into one city and out of another, but book it all together? That's what you probably want to think about doing.

Thanks for the advice. Trying to keep the travel as simple as possible so into Venice sounds like the better option.

Flying into Venice and out of Rome does sound like the best option, and if you arrive in Venice maybe a couple of days early, for some chilling out time, I think you'll be glad you did. Does your tour go to Florence? If so, would you be able to fit in a day trip to Siena?

Assuming OP is doing the RS VFR tour, there is really no time to take a day trip to Siena from Florence.

One option- fly into Rome and go to Siena for 2or3 nights and arrive Venice the day before the tour starts.

The other option is the fly IN to Venice a day or two early ( to be rested and ready) and fly out of Rome and put Siena on your list for another trip.
