Itinerary Advice for the Vatican Museum and St. Peters

My husband and I have obtained a reservation for the Vatican Museum for 2:00 p.m. on a Friday in mid-April. Would it be better for us to visit St. Peter's before or after our appointed time?

Also, we know we'd like to see the Sistine Chapel (of course!), the Raphael rooms and the Borgia apartments, but are there other suggestions of must see sections of the museum? Everything looks amazing, but we are trying to be strategic in where we go.

Thanks so much!

It is crowded all day, but I have heard that the crowds greatly diminish before closing, so I'd say after. You'll probably spend several hours touring the museums and the chapel. Have fun!

It depends on the time of year. During high season the museums are packed all day. The line outside diminishes in the afternoon but the inside of the museums, especially the galleries leading to the chapel, are crowded from open until close with ushers clearing rooms starting 45 minutes early sometimes.
