W will be spending 4 days in Cinque Terre and then going on to Paris for 5 days. In between we have 3 days/2 nights to spend somewhere. I was thinking of taking the train and spending the time in Switzerland, but wasn't sure if that would be too much time on a train. Or if there was another route that made more sense. We are a family of 4, including 2 older teens.
Stacy, My suggestion would be to stop in the Berner Oberland of Switzerland for a few days, as that's somewhat "on the way" to Paris. The trip from the Cinque Terre will be about six hours, but that's not unreasonable. I've travelled that route in the past, and will be again later this year. Using Interlaken Ost as the departure point, the trip to Paris will be as short as 5H:07M (one change at Basel), with arrival at Paris Lyon. The trip from Basel to Paris is via TGV which travels at speeds up to 300 kmH, so I'm sure you'll find that to be a unique travel experience. If you need further information and suggestions on the Berner Oberland, post another note. Happy travels!
