itinerary Advice

Hello - I am taking my two daughters (ages 12 & 22) and myself to Italy at the end of summer 2022. September 28th to October 9th or 10th.

Arrive in Venice 9/29

10/1 Train to Florence where we pick up rental car. Staying in agriturismo for two nights and exploring the countryside.

10/3 arrive in Rome early am by train.

Here is my crazy question. I know I have a lot packed into this trip, but I want to fly to Greece on the 6th and come back to Rome on the 8th. then fly back home on the 9th or 10th. Is this doable? My daughters are only going to want to tour so much stuff in Italy and I really want to see Athens.

I'd likely murder whomever I took this trip with, but we're all different. I guess if you think you will never ever have any opportunity to travel again, it is just a two-hour flight.

I don't want to rain on your parade, just offering food for thought. Please consider the time lost relocating. It almost always takes longer to change locations than anticipated even when everything goes well. It's not just the actual travel time, its the packing up, checking out, getting to the train station / airport, finding the track / gate and waiting for the train or plane. Then, upon arrival, you have to clear the terminal, get a taxi, get to your hotel, check in (if your room is ready), and unpack to some degree. Even a two night stay only gives you one full day and part of the arrival day.

You want good memories of unique sights, good food, good wine, and people you'll meet. If your try to do too much, I'm afraid you'll only have blurred memories of taxi rides, train stations, and airports.

If you do as you plan to include Athens, should your 12 yr old file a complaint for child abuse and I were in the jury pool, your attorney would not want me.

Hi Wendy,

If you want to fly to Athens after Rome, then you don’t need waste extra time coming back to Rome afterwards. Just fly home from Athens. Your current itinerary is so quick at each location and missing so much in between locations, may I throw out the idea of just covering Greece on this trip? There would be plenty to do, and it should be beautiful weather at that time.
