Itenerary question for Vatican City

Hi All,
For practical reasons I was hoping to see the sights in Vatican City in one day but only able to book tickets for the last time-slot at the Vatican Museum on a Friday night. Since I also want to see St. Peter's Basilica I am now wondering on when to do this? I'd really prefer to avoid the long lines to get into St Peter's. What I read online says to be at St. Peter's early in the AM. Since I have the time I am wondering now if I should come back to St. Peter's on a different day? It seems like too long a time/too big a day between seeing the Basilica early in the morning and then waiting for my slot in the Museum later that same at night. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Bruce

I would plan to get there before 7 am on a different day if you can. Not on a Wednesday though when it’s closed in the am for the papal audience.

I was there this past March and there was just a small line to get through security at 7 am. It was nice to be in the near empty basilica. You can also get some nice pictures of the Piazza without people.
