My good Catholic friend would like me to bring her back a rosary blessed by the Pope. Not being Catholic myself I don't know exactly how this works. Do you have to be there during a Papal audience or can you buy things at the Vatican that have been pre blessed?
Several years ago I bought a small carrera marble statue (Of Mary holding baby Jesus) at the gift store next to St. Peter's in Vatican City. I was asked if I wanted it blessed. I said yes and then the next day I was able to pick up my package at the shop. I don't this it was blessed by the Pope, but I think the whole trolley of purchases for the day was wheeled into St. Peter's and things were blessed there. It was kind of nice to be able to give the statue to my mom and tell her it was blessed at the Vatican.
It is now mine and I have it displayed in my home.
If you go to St. Peters Square when the Pope makes his appearance (on Wednesday @1030am, I believe..check this time) and you have a Rosary in your hand and hold it up while he makes his "blessing to the people in the square" your Rosary, or other item is blessed. They sell rose scented Rosaries in St. Peter's that are a lovely keepsake. I was there the week of Easter, so didn't check about getting it blessed, because I knew I would be there at the Mass and have it blessed at the mass by holding it up. This will be a Very Special Gift for a Good Catholic.
Francis, probably a little like getting a US flag that has flown over the Capital for all of one second.
