Italybytaxi company

I’m planning to travel to Italy with my two teens. I’ve checked and ‘Italy by taxi’ company is giving me a very reasonable quote door to door from Lido di Jesolo to Florence, better than the train rides for the three of us. Their prices seem to be much better than the other taxi companies too.
They’re asking for 50% of the price now. It’s April and we are planning to visit in July.
Is this a trustworthy company?
I don’t speak Italian and last time I was in Italy was 20 years ago. A taxi driver stole all the cash in my wallet! I’m not familiar with the different modes of transportation in Italy and we will be travelling with our suitcases. So I need to find the most convenient mode of travel without breaking the bank.
Any advice, recommendations, and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

I looked at the "italybytaxi.com" website and it looks a bit off to me. The one thing that stands out is that they have only 5 star reviews. Any reputable company is going to have a few 4 star and lower reviews. If it looks too good to be true, perhaps it is.

And asking for 50% now certainly sounds like something a scammer would do.

Good luck!

Thank you. I feel the same way. That’s why I posted in this forum to see if my hunch was correct.

Where did you look for train prices?

Italo is offering tickets for July from Venezia Mestre to Firenze SMN for as low as 14,90€ on some days in July; 26,90 on others. Even the latter higher price that would be 81 euros. Add the bus fare from Lido di Jesolo (or even a taxi fare) and it will be much less than the 333-398 € I see in the Italybytaxi quote.

Trenitalia probably has similar prices, so check both before you decide.

I'm wondering the same, Lola, Where did you look for train ticket prices? It's hard for me to believe that taxi for that kind of distance would be less expensive.

Hi Lola, thank you for your message. I’m checking the Italo trains and the lowest price is €46 Saver. €81 flexible. Can you please tell me how you found the prices you mentioned?

I used a date in mid-July. Tickets are much less expensive if purchased a couple of months ahead.

For long distances a train in Italy is usually cheaper than a private car or a taxi. From Venice to Florence you should expect not less than 500€ by car: even a business train ticket is cheaper. Of course the car is easier, pick you at the hotel and leave you in front of the door where you arrive.
In Italy there are 4 different legal ways to travel:
- taxi: can pick you on the street, at the train station and cannot be booked in large advance;
- car with driver: need to be licensed and in Italian are called NCC (Noleggio Con Conducente). Cannot pick you up on the street but must be booked in advance. Are usually cheaper than a taxi on long distances;
- rent your car;
- travel by train or bus.

‘Italy by taxi’ is not an Italian company. On the website is declared they are an !inc.!, so maybe a US or UK company. For sure an Italian company have to show its details (Address, VAT number, policy and legal conditions....), all details completely missing in the ‘Italy by taxi’ website! Not so trustworthy IMHO.
In any case, to confirm a booking in Italy is a quite normal policy ask for a deposit. Could be 10, 30 or even 50% (depends by the kind of services included). Is even normal that a percentage of the final cost is not refundable.

My suggestion is always to look for a local driver. In google write "NCC" plus the name of the departure or destination city and you will find several drivers, without pass through unreliable foreign resellers.

Thank you for your great suggestion. I will do this. Even if we take the train from Venice to Florence we still need a ride from Lido di Jesolo to the Venice train station. Google map indicates it will take about 43 minutes from Jesolo to the Venice mestre station. I wonder if traffic will double this time or 43min seems realistic. I’m trying to calculate which train to take from Venice to Florence.

Price is not the only thing to consider, the train saves you a bit of time and is a much more comfortable journey.

Thank you for your suggestions. You are right, taking the train is more scenic. I have checked trenitalia. Italo seems to be better and actually a tad less expensive. I already booked our train trip from Florence to Rome. I’m a planner and not a procrastinator. I’m responsible for my two children (teens) and will be in a country that I don’t speak the language of nor am most familiar with the roads and modes of transportation from Venice, I’m trying to figure out the most safe and convenient way of getting from Lido di Jesolo to Florence.
I’m thinking of taking a taxi from Lido di Jesolo to Venice mestre train station. Now I need to figure out how long it will take to get to the train station, in a taxi, on a Monday morning in July, considering traffic, so that we don’t miss our train.

There is a good sized train station inland from the Lido di Jesolo called S. Dona' di Piave-Jesolo which is a lot closer than Venezia Mestre.

It is served by various trains of Regionale , InterCities and Freccia. Perhaps it may help, and it would certainly get you to Mestre station.

Just curious, nicki, how you're getting to Lido di Jesolo to begin with? Or hadn't you figured that out yet?

I’m also trying to figure this out. Thanks to Ricky ‘s message and guidance above, I contacted NCC taxi and was given a quote of €95 from Piazzale Roma to Lido di Jesolo for the three of us and the same quote from Lido di Jesolo to the Venice mestre train station. The company is NCC SERVICE VENEZIA
+39 388/4571838. I hope this is legit.

BEWARE!! This company is a SCAM!. We booked two taxis in early April. The company took 50% deposit on booking and confirmed booking. Two days later they sent an email cancelling said booking. I have been chasing a refund of my deposit of over 150.00 euros ever since. The company assurred me they "do not scam their clients" but a month later they have never either answered or acknowledged my emails or what's app messages and have illegally kept my deposit. Be very careful of them..

I booked italybytaxi.com 10 days ago for a trip from florence to nice.

They took my half down 250euro and immediately emailed saying they couldn’t do the trip and that a refund would be issued in 7-10 days.

I replied asking for an immediate refund which didnt happen and no reply and no refund yet.

It is now day 10.

Avoid.

Don't use them!!! It is a scam. I booked them when I was in Bari to get to Hertz. They made me pre pay a deposit, but I never got confirmation, they never showed up, nothing. No way to contact them. Luckily it was only $20+ so I will dispute with credit card.
