Italy with young kids mid-late October

Hi

We will be in Italy 14-26 October and based in Viareggio most of the time. Planning to explore Surrounding Viareggio and also drive up to Lake Como for 2-3 nights.

We have two young kids, a 20month infant and a 4 years old toddler.

Appreciate kids/family friendly suggestions on attractions/restaurants/activities surrounding Viareggio/Tuscany and also in Lake Como area.

Also suggestions on best route travelling to and frm Lake Como if we should stop by places along the way.

I know it’s early to catch snow as it’s only October but any possibilities to go up some mountain in the areas we will be in just for the kids to play with some snow

Thank you

Regards,

Joe

Hi Joe. I am curious about why you are staying in Viareggio. The beach will be closed. Pisa is nearby and worth a day, at the most. Lucca is inland and a nice location for 3 nights or so. Both have excellent train connections.

Lago di Como will also be shutting down for the season that late in October and the weather may be cool and rainy. Snow is unlikely unless you go high up in the Dolomites.

Have you ever been to Italy?

+1 on Lucca. We just returned having spent 4 nights there with our 11 month old. The ramparts will be fun to walk around (weather permitting) and there is a park there as well. Also, it feels more like a true Italian town with locals and their children out and about. The train is super easy to access to Pisa or Viareggio. If you have a car, check out the Ponte del Diavolo....might be fun for the kids as a short stopover.
