italy with 6 kids under 14 yrs.

We would like to find a villa south of Rome in a small town that would be accessable to the beach. We plan on using this as a base to travel on occasion to other Italian destinations and an occasional German castle. Any ideas on a site that where the kids could explore city and sea that would also be relaxing for a parent?

I would love to help you,, goodness, with SIX kids under 14 you will need some good advice.. I am just not seeing the "relaxing" part that easily..
Is it two adults with six kids ,, or two couples with six kids between you.. could affect what people suggest,, two cottages that share a courtyard etc..

I suggest you go over to tripadvisor.com Italy Forums and post there also,, you will need alot of ideas,,and since you are travelling with such a large number of small people,, you will need to ask alot of people for ideas,, since most of us do not have any personal experience with large family travel ( although I have seen a few posters on this site you have large families,, so hopefully they can chime in here),, have a great trip.. and bring a nanny LOL

Some places you could use to search for villas that will fit your requirements. Larger villas often come with a pool so that you don't have to be right on a beach giving you a few more options.

I also agree that your comment on visiting "German castles" is very confusing. It's a loooong way to get to Germany from Southern Italy!

The trip would consist of three adults, one of whom is a nanny. We have no problem traveling with the kids, but realize that many people do and frankly don't want them around. So, I am looking to maintain a low profile, as low as you can with a large family and still see a few sights. I use to live in Rome and have been back since with one of my children. But this would not be one of those see all the sights in three weeks with the kids. We have six weeks and realize we will be back, possibly every summer. We would like to introduce them to a few sights, and maybe a couple of cultures. I am mostly looking for advice on possible places to stay. We know we like a beach senario, but would likely do well in a villa just outside of town somewhere. Some space for the kids to rome like the country or a beach would likely help pass the time. We do not plan to see the major museums or indoor adult like sites except maybe the vatican. We are seeking pretty scenery and culture through foods, piazzas, and people we meet at stores or in our daily outings. We have lived abroad before with five of the six. If you know of a town, or area you feel would better lend itself to this that would be good to think about. South Italy is far from other sites, but maybe a bit more kid friendly, or layed back. What do you think? Orvieto or somewhere in Tuscany would be fun too. Christine
