Do the smaller hotels have private bathrooms, or are they shared? Thank you!

Shared bathrooms are becoming more and more rare in Italy. Mind you, the private bathroom you get could be very tiny by US standards - especially the shower stalls.

Shared bathrooms are becoming more rare, but they can still be the key to cheap accommodations particularly in Venice. If you are on a hotel's website the English term "ensuite" means bathroom in the room.

Thank you for the replies. In particular, do you know if the hotels selected for the Rick Steves' Venice, Florence, Rome tour has this feature?

Karen, I have been on 4 of the RS Italy tours since 2004. All of the hotels used had 'en suite' bathrooms.
