I would like to spend three weeks in Umbria. Could someone give me suggestions on a good source of apartments to stay. I am familiar with VRBO, BNBair, etc. Also what city works best to arrive in?
Nancy,
There is a discussion you might find useful here.
We stayed in this charming apartment in Spello a couple of years ago. We also use VRBO.com or Booking.com a lot to find lodging.
Thanks for the info. I have bookmarked this spot.
Hallo Nancy, when I was in Italy I staid at Agriturismo Il Molinello (www.molinello.com) in Tuscany, south of Siena, but very centrally located to visit also Umbria (half an hour from Trasimeno Lake, 50 minutes from Perugia, 1 hour from Spello and Assisi)
regards Sophia
In addition to those, for agriturismo (converted farmhouses) check here:
www.agriturismo.net
www.agriturismo.com
www.agriturismo.it
Click on Umbria region.
If you stay in a farm house, you almost certainly need a rental car.
Every town in Umbria is well connected to Perugia, therefore you could base yourself there and visit by bus/train. However I think that having a car would be more efficient for visiting small towns and the countryside and you'll be able to see more. Three weeks is also enough time to venture beyond Umbria (Tuscany, Lazio, Marche, Republic of San Marino etc.).
