italy trip itinerary

I am overwhelmed by possibilities. We are looking for suggestions. My husband and I (athletic seniors) will be traveling as follows: Venice:2 days Florence: 1 1/2 days Tuscany: 2 days
Rome: 4 days

Hi Susan,
For a more relaxed itinerary I'd consider combining your Tuscany and Florence days and spend 3.5 in one place and take a day trip or two from there? Another option would be to base in Siena and day trip to Florence and other Tuscan cities from there. It would be a a more centralized in the Tuscany region. There are helpful planning tips and much useful info in Rick Steves' Italy book - especially for transportation from city to city. If you don't already have a copy, you could get on at your local library.

I agree with Sharon. Cut your locations down to 3 and you will actually gain precious time by not having to relocate one more time. Siena is a great spot for daytripping to many Tuscan locations, including Florence.

Here's another vote for cutting it down to the top 3 - Venice, Florence and Rome. If you enjoy those three, you'll go back and explore more places on your next trip.

Florence - if you love Renaissance art (sculpture, painting, architecture), and so much of Michelangelo 's works. Siena - if you want the ambience of an Italian town. I found that Florence has little "atmosphere" in the evenings. Definitely take a day trip from one to the other.
