Italy Travel Pisa to Rome

Will be taking a trip to Italy in late July 2017. Considering going to Pisa from Siena and return to Rome from Pisa. Is the train from Pisa to Rome direct? No transfers? It shows to be about 4 hours, Are there multiple departures during the day? Is this a good train route along the coast for scenery and relaxing? Any suggestions or recommendations? thanks Ed & Lona

From Pisa there are direct trains to Rome but sometimes going through Florence with a change to an high speed train there it is a little faster.

The direct coastal route is relaxing but not particularly scenic. There are long stretches where the railway line is distant from the sea.

Except for the short stretch between Livorno and Castiglioncello, which has some coastal views, you won't see the sea at all. The railway runs a few km away from the coast the rest of the way, so views aren't that impressive. Just choose the train that is most convenient for your needs (either via Livorno-Grosseto or via Florence), but not based on the potential views because you will be disappointed.
