What is easiest/best way to get around the Abruzzo region? Planning on taking a train into L'Aquila and from there hoping to spend a couple of nights near Castel del Monte and from there going on to an agritourismo near Anversa degli Abruzzi any help would be really appreciated because I am having a hard time finding anything online. I am thinking a rental car is my only option. Have seen the ARPA buses but I am struggling trying to find schedules. Also from browsing a little should I not expect to return a rental car on a sunday in the region? Thanks for any input!

Maria, As you're going to be heading to some "out of the way" locations, a rental car is probably your best bet. Regarding return of the rental car, unless you're going to be at a larger rental office (ie: FCO), it's probably safe to assume you won't be able to return the car on a Sunday. Note that for driving in Italy, each driver will require the compulsory I.D.P., and you'll have to be careful to avoid ZTL areas (large fines may be the result). If you're not familiar with the area, a GPS along with a good Map would be advisable. Happy travels!
