Italy: Transportation strike -- Sept 6

FYI (I work in the corporate travel industry and get these notifications) The Italian General Confederation of Labor, a national trade union in Italy, has called for a general strike on 6 September. Transport services will be severely disrupted. Demonstrations are also set in several cities, including Milan and Rome. The strike and rallies were planned to protest the new austerity plan and pension reforms approved by the Italian government at the end of August. Flight delays and cancellations are expected. Pilots, flight attendants and ground staff at airports in Italy are planning to strike from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, local time. Train services will be halted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, local time. Additionally, local transport, including buses, ferries, subways and trams, will also be affected by the strike during the day. Italian law requires that a minimum level of service be maintained during industrial actions. However, that policy changes depending on the city, the news source indicated. All travel arrangements in Italy should be verified. Passengers planning to fly into or out of the country should contact their airline well in advance of departure to confirm flight status.
