Italy trains, am I correct?

We will be arriving at Pisa airport and taking the train to Florence. It looks like a regional train from there and does that mean that there is no advantage to buying tickets in advance? How about transfering from the airport to train station?

Also, we will take the train from Orvieto to Rome and this looks like we should buy in advance. It also looks like we arrive at Termini. We are staying in Trastevere. Probably a bus to there?

Thanks.

There is a shuttle bus from the airport to Pisa Centrale. Orvieto to Rome is by regional train mostly (3 IC trains and one night train require reservations). The other 8 are regional. All stop at Rome Tiburtina where you can change to a train to Rome Trastevere.

Yes, you are correct that there is no advantage to buying regional tickets in advance. Unless you are combining it with a purchase of another type of train, you can't actually buy them ahead of time. There are no discounts for advance purchase so just buy them when you get there. For Orvieto to Rome if you are taking an IC train instead of a regional one, you may be able to find discounts for advance purchase - but if not, just buy them when you get there. Trains don't often sell out.

Although there is a train station in Trastevere, it's waaaaay farther south than most tourists stay. Better to train to Termini then take bus H right to the part of Trastevere where you're likely staying.

BTW, here's an excellent restaurant in Trastevere: http://www.marcog.it/en/

We liked it so much on our most recent trip (last year) that we went twice. Boy, were they flattered!
