Hello! We have booked our flights from the US to Rome, landing April 8th. Leaving Salzburg April 29th.. I cc am think booking a Vatican skip the line tour 4/9, Rome golf cart tour 4/10. Heading to Florence 4/11, maybe stopping in Tuscany, I’d love to visit a winery an do some cooking. 2 night sin this area, on to Venice1 or 2 nights, then Milan before heading to catch the Bernina express to Switzerland. We definately want to spend 3-4 days in Zermatt. Ski, take the gondola to cervinia, ice palace. Should we go to Jungfrua region? It looks spectacular. Should we base out of a couple places and do day trips.m? Also thinking about St Moritz, and Murren. Thank you for your guidance.. I’m hoping for 2 nights in Salzburg. We aren’t big museum people really want to experience the alps, we are from NW Montana in the heart of the Rockies so expect the weather in April to be similar. I’m trying not to cram to much in..
If you take the Bernina Express, you will end up in St Moritz or Chur. How are you getting t o Zermatt? Glacier Express? How many days in Switzerland?
10 days minimum in Switzerland. We are at 9 days in Italy, but can cut that back. Maybe 2 nights in Rome leave Rome late afternoon on the 10th? Should we take the glacier express from Milan to Zermatt, stop somewhere along the way? Forget St moritz?
I suggest you to check on a map all the places you want to visit; then find what is the best order to visit them and make an estimate of travel times by checking actual train times on railway websites (trenitalia for Italy, sbb for Switzerland).
I am afraid that just the places you named already add up to the equivalent of five or six full days spent on trains. If, for example, you plan a single day in Venice, you are actually planning half a day as the first half will be spent packing, traveling and unpacking; it makes one wonder why you went there, after all, if you can't stay there.
Thank you, I have two Rick Steves books and maps coming.. I’m just excited..
